How to get to Syria
By Road
Coming from Europe the main gateway to Syria is from Antakya (Antioch) through the Bab El Hawa route to
Aleppo. There are also main roads from Iraq through Bukamal, Jordan and two Lebanese border stops; at Tripoli and through the Anti Lebanon mountains. There are daily coach services from Istanbul to
Aleppo, Amman to Jordan and Beirut to Aleppo and
Damascus.
By Rail
There is a train service from Hayderpasha in Turkey to Ankara and Aleppo. The Hijaz service from Amman to
Damascus has just opened and is running again. The Baghdad service
By Sea
There is a ferry service from Greece and Cyprus, which makes it possible to arrive with your own car. There are also a number of cruises that go round the Mediterranean and stop off at one of the main ports of
Latakia and Tartous.
By Air
Syria has two international airports, Damascus International Airport and the
Aleppo Airport. Most major European and Middle Eastern Airlines land in Damascus, while only Syrian Air, Austrian Airlines, Egypt Air, Czech
Airlines, British Airways and Charter flights to some of the former Soviet republics fly from
Aleppo. Syrian Air flies to most European and Middle Eastern capitals.
